Here’s a list of upcoming things to do (yes, most involving food) that have landed on my radar. Most are in the Honolulu/Oahu area unless otherwise noted. You’ll be able to find other months by using the “Upcoming Events” dropdown menu above.
Honolulu Events – April 2013
Friday 4/5 – First Friday – Each month in the downtown arts district, galleries stay open late, bar and restaurants offer deals, and a fun block party spills over into the streets of the Downtown and Chinatown districts. Details here and here.
4/11 – Taste of Marukai –
Saturday 4/20 – Honolulu Night Market – Every third Saturday, people head down to Kakaako for this lively block party which includes food booths, a warehouse full of popup boutiques, fashion shows and entertainment. FREE. Details here.
Friday 4/26 – Empty Bowl Hawaii 2013 – This one is a no brainer for me. A $20 donation gets you a bowl of delicious soup (participating restaurants include town, Alan Wong’s Pineapple Room, Roy’s, among many others) and your choice of a handmade bowl by the Hawaii Potters Guild. Proceeds benefit Hawaii Meals on Wheels. Find up to the minute details on Facebook or purchase tickets here.
Saturday 4/27 – Waikiki SPAM Jam – It’s a pretty well-known fact that Hawaii loves SPAM. You probably didn’t need a block party to tell you that – but here you have it! Each April, the SPAM Jam takes over Waikiki with SPAM dishes by various local restaurant, multiple stages of entertainment, and a chance to take your photo with a giant walking can of SPAM. Don’t knock it til ya try it! Details here.
Saturday 4/27 – The Great Meat Dinner – Two legends of whole animal butchery, Bruce Aidells and Ryan Farr, come to Honolulu to do a collaboration dinner with Ed Kenney and Dave Caldiero of town as a benefit for the Hawaii Culinary Education Foundation. Workshops will also be held at KCC. Details here.
